A full sloped backyard transformation in Bellevue Hill, turning an unusable hillside into a structured, multi-level garden with natural stone retaining walls, planting and lawn.
Before: Steep and Unusable Backyard
The site was steep, unstable and difficult to use or maintain. Existing levels were undefined, with poor access and no clear planting zones, making the space feel messy and impractical.
Build Process
The project began with reshaping the slope to establish stable levels across the site. Natural stone retaining walls were then constructed to terrace the backyard into usable sections.
Each level was carefully formed to follow the natural contours of the land, creating flow while improving stability. Garden beds and planting were installed throughout, with turf added to define the lower usable area.
Result
The backyard has been transformed into a functional, tiered garden that is easy to use and maintain. The natural stone retaining walls add warmth and character, while the structured planting and lawn create a clean, usable outdoor space.
The result is a cohesive landscape that works with the slope, improving both usability and visual appeal.
